Things have been exciting for Alfredo lately. On April 10th, we celebrated yet another birthday. Here he is enjoying all of his new toys, which is par for the course.
Despite the number of toys he received, he still made it a point to act like a bandit and run into the condo across from mine while I was talking to my neighbor who lives there. The reason? Not only does Alfie know that a cat lives there, but he's also aware that the cat is spoiled as much as he is. It isn't the first time he's darted in there, snatched the first toy he could find, and ran back into our condo, as if he doesn't have enough toys of his own.
What can I say...I think he really likes catnip, and considering I didn't buy him any for his birthday (nor do I ever), he took his chances. Mama didn't raise no fool. Nevertheless, we replaced it.
Moving back to Alfredo's birthday, it's hard to believe he's five this year. Time really is a precious thing and moves very quickly. As part of his birthday celebration, we enjoyed brunch at Pier 54, a quaint little restaurant along the lake in Tempe. I guess he really is starting to age a bit, as shown here by his eyebrows which are turning grey.
I guess if one of us has to start turning grey, it might as well be Alfie. At 31, I have yet to see my first one appear (knock on wood). It makes sense anyway, now that Alfie has officially passed me in age according to dog years (sad). Not to mention, for the first time since the 6th grade, I'm actually letting my natural hair color grow out and have kicked dyeing my hair to curb for now. Of course, as soon as it's my complete natural color, the grey will probably appear. Just watch.
Another part of the birthday celebration was spending time at the dog park, a place he really hasn't been to in quite some time. After successfully completing a ten mile run that same morning (the half marathon next weekend can't come soon enough), I think Alfie ran about ten miles of his own while there.
If there's one thing I can say about Bostons, it's that although curious and intrigued by other dogs, he easily gets bored of them. Such was the case on this particular day. Either that, or he was just too tired to run around any longer.
And speaking of running, I was able to catch a glimpse of Alfie watching the Boston Marathon this year, a race I love watching but will have very little chance of ever qualifying for.
Until next time!
